Senior leadership team
Mrs Gill Humphriss
Executive Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead
I have been in education since 1993 when I started out as a teaching assistant working for Service Children's Education in Belgium. Over the years I completed my degree in English and Music with The Open University and have worked in a variety of schools in Germany, Dorset, Worcestershire and Warwickshire. teaching all year groups. I quickly moved into leadership and have been Head Teacher of 3 schools. Heathcote will be my 4th school to lead. I am an extremely positive person and instil 'can do' attitudes in the children under my care. I want the children to have fun and look back on their primary education remembering all the good times. I encourage my staff to research different ways they can improve educational experiences for children and have completed a post graduate certificate in educational research myself; focusing on mathematical learning and behaviour management.
I am married with one son who is a chef. My husband is an electronics engineer. I love animals and have 2 west highland terriers, chickens, quails, guinea pigs and fish. In my spare time I enjoy tracing my family history, writing (particularly plays for schools), listening to music, visiting new places and gardening. I am also a huge Strictly fan and love to dance. I have been known to break into a waltz or a Charleston in assembly.
Mrs Kim Abernethy
Deputy Head Teacher and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
After graduating from the University of Warwick with a joint honours degree in Philosophy and Psychology, I took some time to travel around the world. It was during this time that I had the pleasure to teach in a school in Fiji which confirmed to me that I wanted to be a teacher. Since getting my teaching qualification, I have taught across the primary year groups in different locations including London, Solihull and Shanghai. I am a creative and imaginative individual and thoroughly enjoy using stories, poetry and art to capture the children’s interest and push their learning further. I look forward to developing the curriculum at Heathcote Primary and supporting staff in delivering outstanding lessons where children can thrive, enjoy and be proud of their learning.
In my spare time I enjoy travelling and exploring new places. I always need a project to be working on and can often be found busying myself behind my sewing machine or with a paintbrush in my hand. I also enjoy keeping fit through calisthenics, dance, pilates and taking part in outdoor assault courses such as the Wolf Run.
