Relationships and Health Education:
At Heathcote, our RHSE will be taught through the ‘Changes’ unit of work which makes up part of our Jigsaw Curriculum for PSHE. The lessons will include all aspects of compulsory Relationships and Health Education, designed in a sensitive, spiral, age-appropriate curriculum. It also has a few lessons on human reproduction in Key Stage 2 to ensure children know the accurate facts concerning this before going to secondary school, and to ensure children understand why the body changes in adolescence. These lessons help reinforce the Key Messages from Warwickshire’s Protective Behaviours - Taking Care Programme and the NSPCC Pants rules.
Below you will find an overview for each year group for the Changes unit of work.
Reception – Growing up – how we have changed since we were babies.
Year 1 – Boys’ and girls’ bodies; correct names for body parts.
Year 2- Boys’ and girls’ bodies; body parts and respecting privacy (which parts of the body are private and why this is).

Providing an inclusive, as well as supportive and nurturing environment to discuss topics around families, gender identity, puberty and reproduction is vital to our school.
